About Coin Center

Coin Center is the leading non-profit research and advocacy center focused on the public policy issues facing cryptocurrency technologies such as Bitcoin. Our mission is to build a better understanding of these technologies and to promote a regulatory climate that preserves the freedom to innovate using blockchain technologies. We do this by producing and publishing policy research from respected academics and experts, educating policymakers and the media about blockchain technology, and by engaging in advocacy for sound public policy. We are headquartered in Washington, DC.

    Executive Director

    Jerry is executive director of Coin Center. He also serves as adjunct professor of law at George Mason University. Jerry is the coauthor of Bitcoin: A Primer for Policymakers, as well as other scholarly works on the regulation of cryptocurrencies. Jerry has over ten years experience in technology policy and he has testified twice before Congress on cryptocurrencies. His op-eds have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and elsewhere.

    Robin has over 20 years of experience advising clients on public policy issues. In addition to her role at Coin Center, Robin is currently a Principal at the Sternhell Group, a DC based lobbying firm.  Prior to joining the Sternhell Group, Robin served as a Director of Government Relations for Nasdaq OMX.

    Peter is the Director of Research for Coin Center. Formerly, he was the Google Policy Fellow for TechFreedom. He has a JD from the NYU School of Law and a BS in Economics from George Mason University.

    Neeraj is the Director of Communications for Coin Center. Formerly he was a Corporate Communications Manager for Verisign where he worked on Internet infrastructure and governance issues. Neeraj is native to the D.C. area and hopes never to leave.

    Alex Morcos is an active Bitcoin angel investor and co-founder of Chain Code Labs, a New York City-based research and development group that explores cryptocurrencies and other peer-to-peer decentralized systems. Previously he co-founded Hudson River Trading, a global, multi-asset class quantitative trading firm that uses advanced mathematics and statistical modeling techniques to develop automated trading algorithms.

    Balaji Srinivasan is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz with a strong focus on Bitcoin. He is the co-founder of Counsyl, a genomics startup that began in a Stanford dorm room and now tests more than 2.5% of all US births.

    Susan Athey is Professor of Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business. She received her bachelor’s degree from Duke University and her Ph.D. from Stanford, and she holds an honorary doctorate from Duke University. She previously taught at the economics departments at MIT, Stanford and Harvard.

    Fred Wilson has been a venture capitalist since 1987. He currently is a managing partner at Union Square Ventures and also founded Flatiron Partners.  Fred has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Fred is married with three kids and lives in New York City.

    Jason Weinstein

    Jason Weinstein is a partner in Steptoe’s Washington office and concentrates his practice on privacy and data security matters, white-collar criminal defense, and internal investigations. Prior to joining Steptoe, Jason served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, and before that he served for nearly 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and the District of Maryland. Jason is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of BitFury.

    Jason Thomas is Chief of Innovation for Thomson Reuters Special Services. He is an expert in emerging technology and the use of technology for illicit purposes. Jason is the creator and founding director of the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Previously Jason was faculty at West Virginia University in the International Studies department. Jason was also the Director of the Open Source Intelligence Exchange and Fusion Center (OSIX) and served as the Associate Director of the Center for Intelligence and National Security Analysis (CINSA).

Besides having founded 3 startups, he held senior positions at Hewlett-Packard and Cognizant.
